Winter 2020: A day in the life

Winter is finally starting to loosen its grip on the Hilltop as students and faculty prepare for spring break.

Many students will stay on campus or in the region, while others will experience a BreakAway trip to Cuba or an Alternative Spring Break to Milwaukee led by Ryan Flynn ’15, director of community-engaged learning. With the goal of opening additional learning opportunities for students and faculty, I will be part of a delegation to Cuba focused on expanding IC’s academic partnerships with the University of Pinar del Río and the University of Artemisa.

At the IC Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Feb. 7, I had the privilege of accepting the posthumous recognition of President Donald Mundinger whose contributions to the life of ¶¶Òõpro are legendary. He served as president from 1973-1993 and is one of my presidential heroes. Coaches, student-athletes and alumni praise him for making significant capital investments that strengthened athletic programs. In addition, he accepted the invitation for IC to join the Midwest Conference. More
than anything, he understood the pivotal role that athletics plays in the lives of IC’s students.

¶¶Òõpro: The Campaign for ¶¶Òõpro has raised over $38 million against our bold goal of $50 million.
This issue of the Quarterly provides you with firsthand accounts from students who are benefiting from your gifts to the Campaign.

Please join me in cheering on these first-year and upper-class students who are preparing to Graduate READY and enter the workforce, graduate schools and professional schools with the confidence that comes with being alumni of ¶¶Òõpro. These students want to thank you for making it possible for them to achieve their dreams.

As part of your participation in the Campaign, mark your calendars to join other alumni, parents and friends in ALL IN FOR IC, our third annual Day of Giving on Wednesday, March 11. Your investment in the annual fund provides direct support for student learning through scholarships and by offering curricular and co-curricular activities like experiential learning and participation in athletics. Watch for details through the mail, online and on social media. Your gift to the IC Fund will be matched dollar for dollar by other generous donors. Thank you for being ALL IN FOR IC!

All the best,
