Online exclusive: Spring season preview
Athletics
IC athletics has an exciting line-up planned for the spring season. Get a special sneak peek below.
Baseball
- 2019 Record: 18-18 (7-9 MWC)
- Returning Starters: Six position players, three starting pitchers
- Notable Home Games: April 5 vs. Monmouth (doubleheader, MWC home openers), April 26 vs. Grinnell (doubleheader, Senior Day)
- Highlights: Three All-MWC South Division performers – Colin Dearing, Joe Paparelli and Scott Kasting – all return in 2020 for a team that missed last year’s MWC Tournament by a single game. The Blueboys will be tested by a challenging slate of games on their spring break trip to Florida, but should be sharp as they return home to Joe Brooks Field where they will host 20 contests this season.
Softball
- 2019 Record: 19-15 (13-5 MWC)
- Returning Starters: Two position players, one starting pitcher
- Notable Home Games: March 14 vs. Simpson (home openers), April 4 vs. Lawrence (MWC openers), April 22 vs. Monmouth (home finales)
- Notes: The ¶¶Ňőpro softball team has qualified for four straight MWC Tournaments, but this year’s team will be looking to extend that streak with zero seniors on the squad. Helping offset that lack of experience will be returning MWC Pitcher of the Year Sydney Hood and First Team All-MWC selection Sam Seggerman.
Men’s Tennis
- 2019 Record: 9-10 (4-4 MWC)
- Key Returners: Cameron Doerr, Connor McAndrew, Jacob McQueen
- Notable Home Matches: March 6 vs. Webster (home opener), March 7 vs. Knox (MWC opener), April 5 vs. Westminster (MO) (home finale)
- Highlights: Head coach Tyler Linscott faces an uphill climb in his first season in charge of the men’s tennis program as he tries to overcome the graduation of Michael Connolly '19 and Miguel Vaca '19, two of the three winningest players in the history of the program. In addition to three returners from last season, freshman Ethan Sabotta '23 joins the mix this year as a new era of Blueboy tennis gets underway.
Men’s Golf
- 2019 Finish: 4th at the MWC Championship
- Key Returners: Bryce Oden, Ryan Kaufmann, Louis Faivre
- Home Tournaments: Blueboy Invite (April 3-4 at The Rail); McNaughton Memorial Invite (April 6 at Jacksonville Country Club)
- Highlights: With the MWC no longer sponsoring golf after last season, the Blueboys are among five teams from the MWC who made the move to join the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) this season. With a talented team led by senior Bryce Oden '20 and junior Ryan Kaufmann '21, ¶¶Ňőpro could immediately contend for a conference title. In a one-round “preview” during the Fall season, the Blueboys finished in second place at the course that will host the SLIAC Championship in April.
Outdoor Track & Field
- 2019 Finish: Men 3rd, Women t-6th at the MWC Outdoor Championships
- Returning All-MWC Performers: 9
- Home Meet: True Blue Open (April 25)
- Highlights: Seniors Anthony Flores '20 and Andrea Hyde '20 lead nine returning All-MWC outdoor track & field performers who are back in 2020. Flores set a school record in the men’s hammer throw at last year’s MWC Outdoor Championships and will be seeking a conference title in his final season. Hyde will be in search of conference titles in both the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes, along with a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
